LANAP® Laser Dental Treatment – NYC

What is LANAP surgery?

LANAP stands for Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure.
The LANAP protocol offers a minimally invasive approach to treating gum disease,
utilizing the PerioLase® MVP-7TM dental laser. It is the first and only protocol approved
by the FDA for True Regeneration, which involves the regeneration of new cementum,

periodontal ligament, and alveolar bone, essential components for full oral function. The
treatment has been widely embraced by the dental community for several years and the
LANAP protocol boasts several benefits:

Reduced postoperative discomfort: By avoiding cutting and stitching of the
gums, the LANAP protocol minimizes post-operative pain for patients.
Faster recovery: Patients can typically resume normal activities within 24 hours
post-procedure, compared to the two to four weeks required for traditional
surgery, which often involves significant pain and swelling.
Preservation of gum health: Unlike traditional methods that may lead to gum
recession, LANAP keeps gum tissue intact, minimizing recession and preserving
aesthetics.

Natural regeneration: The PerioLase laser stimulates the body’s natural healing
response, eliminating the need for additional growth factors or foreign materials.

Introducing the cutting-edge LANAPTM Laser Periodontal treatment, a revolutionary
advancement in periodontal care. Dr. Ursomanno utilizes the PerioLaseTM to perform the
Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAPTM) which can harness the body’s
natural healing ability to regenerate tissue.

Unlike traditional methods involving scalpels and sutures, LANAPTM offers a scalpel-free,
sutureless approach to periodontal therapy, facilitating the regeneration of lost tissues
surrounding the teeth, including gums, bone, cementum, and ligaments that result from
periodontal disease.

The laser precisely targets diseased gum tissue, discerning it by color, and gently
agitates healthy tissue to encourage reattachment to the bone. This selective approach
promotes the regrowth of connective tissue, significantly reducing the risk of gum
disease recurrence compared to conventional surgery.

By targeting and removing only diseased tissue, Dr. Ursomanno provides effective
treatment with minimal postoperative discomfort and fewer side effects and risks. This
advanced therapy, combined with comprehensive home care guidance, ensures optimal
healing and long-term oral health.
